Marblehead High School’s DECA chapter is a business chapter that helps prepare future leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Since its inception, just four years ago, and under the leadership of MHS Business Teacher and DECA Advisor, Janice Skalaban, the Marblehead High School chapter has grown from 7 to 45, with 27 members qualifying to attend this year’s State Career Development Conference (SCDC)!

Competitive-event submissions are currently being judged. Contestants with the highest scores in their categories will compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in April. The only result announced thus far is that the MHS DECA Quiz Bowl Team won the entire event. Out of 33 teams, they came out on top, which makes them State Champions! The four-members of the State Champion Quiz Bowl team are Jack Dalton, Jaden Curtis, Jack Payson, and Grace Maclean.

Joshua Berg and Jaden Curtis have already qualified to attend the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) through the Stock Market Game. Competing separately, they ranked within the top 25 teams from the North Atlantic region of the U.S. At ICDC, they will present their portfolios and defend their investment decisions with a written document and an oral presentation. The Friends of the Marblehead Public Schools helped to fund members’ participation in these competitions and is incredibly proud of their success.

The Massachusetts DECA Grand Awards Ceremony is scheduled to livestream on Thursday, March 18th from 7-8 PM. The winners moving on to Internationals will be announced.
